Check Your Email This article is in the Miscellany category and was published or updated on 15 March 2009 Just a few days ago I had the return of an email problem that I first noticed a couple of years ago and at that time there was no support for the email program I was using so I just upgraded and hoped it had gone away. It hadn't and I found out this week but this time a support system is in place so I promptly chimed in and let them know about the serious bug or flaw that I had found and asked what their advice was.....(more)
Reason versus emotion This article is in the Miscellany category and was published or updated on 03 July 2008 I read somewhere some years ago in a book I think might be called "Emotional Intelligence" that there is a simple test to discover how the state of a society will be in the future. You take a class of four or five year olds and put a sweet or cookie in front of them and tell them that you will be back in a few minutes and those who still have their sweet will get an extra one.....(more)
The Prisoner This article is in the Miscellany category and was published or updated on 25 May 2007 I am old enough to have been able to watch the TV series "The Prisoner" at the time it was first broadcast, oh way back in the late '60s and believe me I was a big fan too and, I suspect, like many fans of today rather, as in my case, than yesterday, I watched and thought about it all on my own. I don't remember ever sharing thoughts about it with anyone. I was able to watch it in peace, undisturbed, I turned the sound right down, real low, my parents went off to bed about 10.30 pm and my younger brother likewise and my sister too, they were all packed off safely upstairs in bed and out of the way by the time it aired which must have been at 11pm - and that on it's own was unusual because a TV program of that kind, however you want to slot it, would more normally have been shown in the 8pm slot - I would say, from memory. I had watched and been a big fan of Danger Man years before, also with Patrick McGoohan - the man who a search engine might have been half-named after, if they were wise - (Google, in case you're having difficulty with my crytic sense of humour) and programs like that, thriller series I suppose they might be called, would always be slotted in the earlier part of the evening because in those days TV transmissions ended at about midnight and the viewing schedule was a much simpler formula than today. I imagine it's late showing was and is a signal that it was too strange to show as a series like Danger Man or The Saint and their formulaic like and a big risk as such. It is ever the case that the strange will be treated as dubious.....(more)

The Vampire This article is in the Miscellany category and was published or updated on 26 May 2007 Yesterday, so the thought is still in my mind, I wrote The Prisoner article and, some related ideas occured to me relating to this idea of christianity and how it can and does produce a phenomenon like The Prisoner and now, having explained that sufficiently well enough for you to grasp my idea I would like to point out to you that this is most likely to be the reason why The Vampire story arrived on the scene because it looks to me like it is the same thing more or less exactly.....(more)
